Our client is one of the leading accounting firms in the Southeastern US and growing; so much so that they are seeking a Principal Level accounting professional to grow and lead a new SALT Practice.

Looking for an Overall Strategic Leader


  • Build and lead the? State and Local Tax Practice – Communicate and lead the overall SALT group Vision
  • Responsible for designing and building SALT Practice and? achieving SALT Operating Statement targeted budget.
  • Responsible for strategic personnel decisions with input from Product Leaders, SALT HR Executive and Tax Partner in charge.

Technical Expertise

  • SALT Technical Resource/SME
  • Understand office clients and targets and define Product technical resource needs.
  • Identify and develop SALT professionals to fulfill technical needs.
  • Seek required assistance from Product Leaders – Act as Product Leader liaison.
  • Provide overall local office technical quality control / processes / efficiencies
  • Assist Product Leaders with Product enhancements/overall initiatives.
  • Monitor and ensure achievement of local office professional SALT CPE requirements

? To be considered, applicants MUST have the following:


  • A minimum of 8 years of experience
  • CPA required
  • Prior experience with Big 4 firm or other national firm highly desirable.
  • Minimum experience level as a Senior Manager level; (Principal level preferred)
  • Ability to lead and work well as part of a team is essential.
  • This person will be developing a new SALT practice with the full support of the firm, so entrepreneurial ability is essential.

? The ideal candidate will also have the following:?


  • 12-15 years of experience working in Tax, preferably with the vast majority being state and local tax (both public and private experience a plus).
  • J.D., LL.M. in Taxation, and/or Master’s in Taxation (MST) from an accredited college/university preferred
  • Excellent US Federal and state tax technical skills and experience with large, publicly held multinational groups with significant acquisition histories
  • Possess excellent FAS 109 technical skills and experiences with large, publicly held US-based multinational groups
  • Bring open, honest and straight forward thinking, management and communication to the team with uncompromised ethics and integrity
  • Have effectively and skillfully directed, managed and mentored state and local staff members
  • Bring a balanced approach and experience with tax planning, compliance and reporting including coordination and management of outside advisor
  • Have a cooperative “value-add” perspective towards being a “business partner”
  • Be an effective communicator across all lines of the organization who is able to take nuanced issues and relate them to tax colleagues and non-tax colleagues alike
  • Have excellent organizational and follow-up skills; demonstrated ability to identify and manage complex projects and support key objectives and responsibilities
  • Be a highly motivated individual capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced work environment
